Welcome to the Institute of Counselling at ACU

The Institute of Counselling was formed in 1970 to meet a growing need in the community for counsellor training. This initiative attracted a large and varied range of students who were interested and motivated to develop more effective communication and counselling skills to enhance their work. From these beginnings the reputation and expertise of the Institute grew. In particular the Institute has been renowned for its group work programs especially in the area of counsellor personal development.

In 2011, the Institute of Counselling formally joined ACU to advance the well-regarded suite of postgraduate programs specialising in counselling education within the School of Psychology.

Now within ACU the Institute aims to continue to provide students with a creative learning environment that includes a comprehensive foundation in counselling theory and practice integrated with both personal and professional development.

Please have a look around the website, and feel free to contact us should you have any questions.
