The Wednesday Lectures
Faculty of Theology and Philosophy
School of Philosophy
A Free Public Lecture Series organised by the School of Philosophy at ACU
From 2000-2010, ACU’s School of Philosophy ran a free public lecture series addressing a theme or issue of contemporary relevance and importance for the community. The series hosted a different invited speaker each Wednesday night for six weeks, and sought to present the issue from a diverse range of expert perspectives, and in the spirit of philosophical questioning. An archive of these lecture series is provided below.
The series, which became known to many as “The Wednesday Lectures”, featured various presentations that were broadcast on ABC Radio National or published in the popular media.
They also led to the following publications, edited by Prof Raimond Gaita:
- Why the War Was Wrong? (Melbourne: Text Publishing, 2003)
- Gaza: Law, Morality and Politics (Perth: University of Western Australia Press, 2010)
- Muslims and Multiculturalism (Melbourne: Text Publishing, 2011)
The Wednesday lectures were discontinued after the 2010 series. There are plans to revive the series in a different format from 2013. Further information will be posted here as it comes to hand.
