Do you want to be a competent, ethical clinician, a creative and critical thinker, an independent lifelong learner and a professional nurse?
Australian Catholic University’s (ACU) Bachelor of Nursing aims to prepare students as professional nurses who can work in a variety of health-care organisations and community settings. The course includes studies related to:
- caring
- safety and advocacy in practice
- clinical skill development
- safety and advocacy in practice
- clinical skill development
- and focuses on the National Health Priorities.
Career pathways
Nursing graduates are in demand all over Australia and throughout the world in public and private health-care organisations as well as community service areas. Graduates may employ their skills and knowledge in:
- government and/or private hospitals
- community based health services
- rural and remote retrieval services
- management
- education and research
- health promotion.
ACU graduates are able to enter different fields of health care including a wide variety of specialisation such as:
- intensive care
- aged care
- paediatrics
- maternal and infant care
- medical/surgical nursing
- mental health
- and many more.

Professional recognition
Graduates will be able to practice at beginning levels of performance in the four domains of nursing identified in the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council Inc. (ANMCI) competency standards:
- professional practice
- critical thinking and analysis
- rovision and coordination of care
- collaborative and therapeutic practice.
The course will prepare graduates for entry into the nursing profession. Graduates are eligible to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (from 1 July 2010).
ACU also offers courses in midwifery.
