Faculty of Health Sciences

School of Nursing & Midwifery (Victoria)

The position of Academic International Advisor- Nursing (AIA-N) was created by the Vice Chancellor in July 2009 to support and assist International students enrolled in the Bachelor of Nursing course. The creation of this position is an initiative focused on improving the academic outcomes for International students. The fundamental principle for the role is to inherently support the students as an additional resource in Academic life.

The academic nursing lecturers who have been appointed to these roles are Dr. Cecilia Yeboah and Ms. Robyn Faulkner. The Academic International Advisors philosophy is to be a critical friend, clinical mentor and individual or group academic resource. The Advisors are not involved in student assessment. Rather their goal is to create a positive, inclusive atmosphere for students who require additional support in their tertiary life.

Initial contact with the Advisors is designed to be student initiated as the Advisors act as a resource for students. Group sessions are available to all international students and attendance is strongly recommended. The academic advisors' intention is to facilitate ACU International nursing graduates to be in high demand in the work place.
