Innovative model for promoting primary science learning
MyScience is an innovative and exciting primary school science and technology program, developed to support science in primary schools through the establishment of a sustainable model of collaboration between schools, industry/business and universities to stimulate interest and enhance capacities of primary teachers and students in conducting authentic scientific investigations.
An afternoon tea was hosted by the School of Education NSW for MyScience partners and participants in appreciation of their participation in 2008. The project was awarded Best Education and Training Collaboration at the Business and Higher Education Round Table (B-HERT) ceremony held in November.
The pilot project which commenced in 2005 involved the Australian Catholic University, the University of Sydney, IBM and the NSW Department of Education and Training (Western Sydney Region). Through this project, the collaborative partnership aimed to fulfill their common goals of improving science education, encouraging young children to take an interest in science and technology and reaching out to schools.
In 2008, MyScience was awarded Best Education and Training Collaboration at the Business and Higher Education Round Table (B-HERT) ceremony held in November last year. The program was recently awarded a grant of $ 50,000 from the Ian Potter Foundation to support the enhancement and dissemination of the programs learning resources which are being developed in partnership with the Centre for Learning Innovation.
