School of Religious Education
The School of Religious Education is at the forefront of the University's activities in teaching and research in religious education.The University has a fundamental and traditional commitment to the professional development of teachers for the Australian Catholic school systems. In addition, the focus on spiritual, moral and religious education addresses such matters as contemporary search for meaning and purpose in life, spirituality, critical interpretation of the spiritual/moral influences of culture, inter-faith and ecumenical education, theological and inter-disciplinary perspectives on education.
ACU has the largest group of religious education academics in the Australian tertiary education sector.
Historical perspective
Giving special attention to the spiritual and moral dimension of life was one of the foundational aspects of the earliest universities since they were instituted in the Middle Ages. This tradition has remained in the Catholic universities, where theology and philosophy, and more recently, religious education, are key areas of the curriculum.The School of Religious Education reflects the special interest of ACU in religious education, a commitment that was fundamental to the founding of the Catholic teachers' colleges that were the predecessors of the university.

The School of Religious Education contributes to professional associations in Religious Education such as the Australian Association for Religious Education (AARE) and the International Seminar on Religious Education and Values (ISREV).Overseas and international links
