Australian Catholic University (ACU National) established the Public Policy Institute (PPI) as a new centre of excellence in Canberra. This is to inform and influence Australian public policy within the context of the University's identity and Mission.

The Public Policy Institute is an important new initiative for the University. It reflects the belief that modern universities are more than just teaching and research institutions.

Universities have a vital role through independent rigorous analysis in leading debate on critical issues, disseminating knowledge and in engaging the public in order to develop practical solutions based on shared knowledge.

ACU National recognises that public policy has wide-ranging effects on people, attitudes and our future development. The University is committed to contributing to intellectual debate about the economic, social, cultural and environmental drivers impacting on Australia.

The Public Policy Institute is a response to these challenges.

The Institute will identify:

  • emerging issues
  • engage in public policy debate
  • undertake research in priority areas
  • actively engage with the community and key stakeholders across a range of policy areas.
