ACU Refugee Program Update
Duncan MacLaren of the ACU Refugee Program on the Thai-Burma border has accepted an invitation to join the Board of Solidarity: The Journal of Catholic Social Thought and Secular Ethic, a new refereed academic online journal which provides a forum for the discussion of social ethics, social justice and Catholic social doctrine. It hopes to encourage serious intellectual debate on issues of social ethics and to bringing the insights of Catholic social teaching to a wider audience. It is an initiative of the Centre of Faith, Ethics and Society at the University of Notre Dame in Sydney and the Justice and Peace Office of the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney. In addition to his refugee work, Duncan has taught a unit on Catholic Approaches to Humanitarian and Development Work for a cohort of students from the staff of Caritas Australia as part of the Postgraduate Certificate in Human Services a unit that will now be taught to groups of staff members from the other members of Caritas Oceania (New Zealand, Samoa, Tonga, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and other Pacific islands) in 2010.
