Major Australian Research Council Award Into The Study Of Youth Homelesness

Professor Adam Steen, in collaboration with colleagues from the Institute of Social Research at Swinburne and Murdoch University, has been awarded an ARC (Australian Research Council) grant.  The grant totals in excess of $1 million with over $360,000 of the funds coming from the ARC and a significant monetary contribution coming from linkage partners - The Salvation Army, Anglicare and Mission Australia.

The grant will support a three year long study of the causes and cost of Youth Homelessness in Australia. Some 400 young people will be surveyed to find their use of public and private support and their transition through the emergency accommodation system. This is a groundbreaking study of international importance never before attempted. Findings will support governments and agencies to better support young people and inform policy. Outcomes of the project will include a book, conference and refereed publications.
