- ACODE is the Australasian Council of Open and Distance eLearning. ACU is a member of the Council. Every two years the ACODE Institute is held. The topic for 2009 is focused on leadership in relation to learning and teaching and the use of technologies to support this. Participants will develop an understanding of effective leadership in the Higher Education context. Participants will apply their knowledge to case studies focused on approaches to leading the introduction and use of learning technologies in educational settings as well as a major project. An interactive program has been developed by the Institute Faculty that is based on the Educause 'Making The Case' model. The ACODE Learning Technologies Leadership Institute is an intensive four day program, 30 August - 3 September 2009, Outrigger Twin Towns Resort. The Australian Systemic Functional Linguistics Association Annual Conference will be held at Queensland University of Technology, Kelvin Grove Campus, Brisbane, 28 September - 2 October, 2009. There is a pre-conference institute for teachers on Monday 28 & Tuesday 29 September, and a research conference on 30 September to 2 October. The pre-institute offers workshops for teachers and teacher educators on the application of grammar to early years, primary and secondary key learning areas, relevant for the Australian English Curriculum. The National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education presents the inaugural conference, 'Social Inclusion in Education: Participation and Partnerships for Social Inclusion in Education', Thursday 22 to Friday 23 October 2009, Swissotel, Sydney. The National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education is a research centre established to facilitate the study of student equity policy and practice in Australian higher education and in related fields, and to lead the development of new knowledge in these fields. The centre is funded by DEEWR and hosted by the University of South Australia. In higher education and in response to the Bradley Review, the Federal Government has set a national goal that by 2020, 20% of higher education enrolments should come from people from low socio-economic status backgrounds. In addition, $108 million has been set aside to facilitate Partnership Activities between universities, schools and vocational education and training providers, to assist in attracting low SES students into higher education. The inaugural Social Inclusion in Education conference will provide participants with an opportunity to share insights on how to best collaborate to develop coherent multi-sector understandings of and commitments to social inclusion in education. ATN Assessment Conference on 'Teaching and Learning in Higher Education: Assessment in Different Dimensions', 19-20 November 2009, RMIT, Melbourne. Topics include: Assessing with technologies; Assessing authentically; Feedback, moderation and quality; Assessing in the disciplines. The conference is utilising an online submission system to manage submissions of abstracts and full papers. - 'Colloquium on Internationalising Learning and Teaching in Academic Settings: Engagement, Collaboration and Sustainability', Monday 23 November 2009, coordinated by the Faculty of Education and Social Work at The University of Sydney. The Faculty of Education and Social Work invites colleagues (staff and students) from all disciplines to share ideas in this one-day colloquium. As part of the commitment to internationalisation, the Faculty of Education and Social Work at The University of Sydney is continuing to have a conversation about developing its capacity and refining its academic (research and teaching) and administrative practices. Proposals addressing the colloquium themes are being sought from academic teaching and research staff, undergraduate and postgraduate university students, general staff and colleagues leading internationalisation initiatives. All abstracts should be approximately 300 words for 20 minute presentations, and must conform to APA fifth edition standards. Presenters will be offered the opportunity of having their papers peer-reviewed. Key themes include: Supervising international students; Internationalising the classroom; Intercultural communication; Internationalisation and inclusion; International partnerships to enhance learning and teaching. - E-BLA (Experience-Based Learning Association (Australasia)) inaugural conference to be held at the University of Technology in Sydney between 7-9 December 2009: 'Traversing the marshes: bridging theory and practice in experience-based learning.
