When we read the Bible, we are not only witnesses of the ongoing rewriting of the tradition, but we are also invited to discover new meanings and to develop new interpretations in dialogue with the biblical text and the God of the Bible…

ACU's Faculty of Theology and Philosophy is offering principals, school leaders and Catholic education office staff a unique opportunity to participate in a two-day masterclass with internationally acclaimed scripture scholar, Professor Dr Reimund Bieringer (KU Leuven) in April 2018.
Dates | Location |
---|---|
Monday 9 & Tuesday 10 April | ACU Leadership Centre, Brisbane |
Thursday 12 & Friday 13 April | ACU Adelaide Campus |
Monday 16 & Tuesday 17 April | Catholic Leadership Centre, Melbourne |
* Given numerous commitments in the northern hemisphere through 2018, Professor Bieringer is only available to work in Australia for a select set of dates, hence some dates fall on school holidays or at the beginning of term. |
Professor Bieringer has developed a unique approach to engaging with Scripture (Normativity of the Future), which is having a transformative impact upon Religious Education learning within an Australian context (see, ‘Scripture program transforming religious education’).
The two-day masterclass with Professor Bieringer offers a unique learning environment, where colleagues from your own and other schools, along with Catholic Education staff, will have the opportunity to workshop questions and address ways that contextual approaches to Scripture might enrich the Catholic Identify of your specific setting. On the second day you will have the opportunity to contribute to the design of a tailored academic unit on scripture and enhancing Catholic identity, for teachers and leaders in Australian Catholic education.
The success of the masterclass depends on your active contribution to the various activities over the two days. To enable the masterclass to explore the opportunities and challenges facing Catholic schools and education offices in addressing their questions of Catholic identity and the approach to the Bible, you will be required to undertake two tasks prior to the masterclass and bring the results of each on the first day.
We especially welcome registrations from teams. The process will be beneficial where principals attend with one or more of the school’s leaders, or where there is a team from an education office.
