Theology and Philosophy
Welcome to Philosophy at ACU
Welcome to the ACU Philosophy website. Here you will find information about the discipline of Philosophy and the benefits of studying it, meet our academic staff, explore options for coursework study and research degrees, get information on upcoming public events and seminars, access links to student news and resources, and more.
ACU Philosophers are both dedicated teachers and world class researchers. In the ARC's 2015 Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) assessment, ACU Philosophy was ranked at Above World Standard in Philosophy and At World Standard in Applied Ethics.
Our people are committed to core philosophical values such as clarity of thought, rigour of argument, and the pursuit of truth and wisdom. A distinctive feature of Philosophy at ACU is its enrichment by the Catholic intellectual tradition which deeply informs our teaching and research in general, and is reflected in our specialisations in moral philosophy, the philosophy of religion, and the history of philosophy.
We offer a full undergraduate Philosophy program on our campuses in Melbourne (Fitzroy), Sydney (Strathfield) and Brisbane (Banyo). This includes introductory and advanced units across a broad spectrum of philosophical topics, providing students with a strong basis in both historical developments in these fields, as well as contemporary debates and applications.
