The Role of Cosmology in Thai Buddhism
The Treatise on the Three Worlds was written in the middle of the 14th century. To the Thais it served as the guide to the cosmos for 500 years. 'Cosmic maps' were drawn, some of them of great beauty. In this lecture Professor Terwiel explains the Thai traditional worldview and the symbolism in illustrations from the oldest preserved manuscripts in relation to Buddhist philosophy.
