Law and Business

Your first year at law school

A mentor to help

You will face many academic challenges in your first year at law school as you learn how to read, think and write like a lawyer. At the Thomas More Law School you will have a Law Skills Mentor to help you acquire these skills and manage this transition through one-on-one and small group support.

The Law Skills Mentor can:

  • help you acquire a basic knowledge of the Australian legal and political systems before starting law school
  • help you develop reading strategies so that you can manage your law school readings efficiently
  • help you develop your writing skills so that you can do well in essays, assignments and exams
  • provide additional support if you are unable to study due to illness or other circumstances.

Ongoing guidance and support

The Law Skills Mentor is also available throughout your degree to provide guidance, support and advice about succeeding in law.
