I have enjoyed my time at ACU immensely. I have made many friends and acquaintances through my studies, through many different avenues. I have engaged in the SPLSS Mooting and Negotiations Competitions during my time at ACU, both of which were great experiences and helped me to develop new skills. I have also enjoyed attending many events during my time at ACU, such as the SPLSS Boat Cruise, SPLSS Law Ball and SPLSS Cocktail Night, all of which have been fantastic and helped me to meet likeminded students doing a similar degree to my own.
I also had the opportunity to study the core curriculum unit, UNCC 300, in Paris for two weeks in 2016. The opportunity to travel overseas and study at the same time was fantastic and eye opening. Apart from the extra- curricular activities I have engaged in, I have also enjoyed studying many interesting subjects during my degree. ACU has given me the tools to forge my future career in Law or Business.
I chose ACU primarily because of the small, inclusive class sizes. I attended an open day in 2013 and believed immediately that ACU was for me after seeing the excellent library and learning spaces, such as the moot court. I also chose ACU because the location is central and close to the city.
The lecturers and tutors at ACU have been extremely helpful in guiding me through my learning during my degree. They are not only exceptional teachers, but are also exceptional people who are willing to give up their time to help you through difficult concepts.
I would advise prospective students considering ACU to make the most of their time at University. ACU offers many exciting opportunities to develop your skills and personal life, through the many events and competitions offered by the LSS. I would also tell them that the opportunities that ACU offer to travel overseas are extremely exciting and that students should take up these opportunities. ACU offers an exciting program, one that is inclusive and will foster your learning and development towards an exceptional degree.
I have completed professional experience with JobWatch. The program was a two week intensive program and allowed me to develop my skills in a way in which I could not have done in the classroom. During the program, I was able to sit in on cases in numerous courts across Victoria, and helped to develop general advice about employment rights for people needing it throughout Victoria. The program was extremely beneficial for my personal development and helped me to get a taste for what the legal profession might be like in the future.
I am hoping that my degree will allow me to pursue a career in Employment Law or Trademark/Intellectual Property Law. I am passionate about helping people (this is one of the main reasons I chose ACU), and I believe a career in either of those areas of law will help me to pursue this passion. However, I am still undecided as I also have a strong interest in Accounting and Finance. One of the main benefits so far of studying my double degree has been that I am not limited to just Law, but that I also have the option of pursuing a career in Business.
