Morena Melograna accepting Rotary Pride of Workmanship Award

Morena is a 1993 ACU graduate from the very first year Business was offered in North Sydney (Bachelor of Business at ACU is now known as Bachelor of Commerce). Morena has worked exceptionally hard at her career, celebrating a number of achievements along the way.

She is now the Director and owner of Melograna Business Services Pty Ltd – and in what she describes as her dream job. “I wake up in the morning and I enjoy going to work. I have been very fortunate to have such a diverse range of clients, across many varied industries, professions and countries. Everyday is different.

“As the Director of Melograna Business Services Pty Ltd I am responsible for Quality Assurance Reviews for CPA Australia, liaising with clients and dealing with client queries, tax return preparation, financial statement preparation, SMSF Audits, ASIC compliance as well as all aspects of managing my own business."

On top of her ACU undergraduate degree, Morena is a Fellow of CPA Australia, holds a Public Practice License, is a registered Tax Agent with the Australian Taxation Office, is a registered SMSF Auditor with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, has completed her Certificate IV Train the Trainer and is a Justice of the Peace. In 2011 Morena completed her Diploma in Financial Services (Financial Planning).

In 2008 Morena was awarded the “Pride of Workmanship” Award by the Rotary Club of Sydney Cove in recognition of her dedication to her work and commitment to her clients. Prior to establishing her own business, Morena worked with Coopers and Lybrand (now Pricewaterhouse Coopers) and Wayland Management.

Morena attributes much of this success to her time at ACU. “The skills acquired at ACU allowed me to successfully gain employment following the completion of my degree and learn about the business world - the subjects studied whilst at ACU still help me today; accounting, law, ethics, marketing, budgeting.

“The work experience program at ACU provided me with a unique insight into the running of a large corporation. I was able to see how various parts of a business worked together from accounting and human resources, to sales and logistics. Including ACU as part of my resume has always held me in high regard with all my employers and clients.

"The friendships formed whilst studying at ACU have also continued beyond university in a business and personal capacity. I have been a bridesmaid for several ex students, who were in turn bridesmaids at my own wedding in October 2008. We have gone on holidays together, celebrated milestones and the birth of our children. They're truly wonderful people and friends for life."

Morena offers advice to current and future Bachelor of Commerce students. “Learn as much as you can about the major you’re studying, but also look at the bigger picture and other areas that can impact on your profession. The Bachelor of Commerce can open many doors and lead you on a very exciting and fulfilling career path. Work hard and be a team player!"
