University has been exciting and full of opportunities. I am always finding things to do at university outside of the standard studies. Some of these have been volunteering at open days to promote my course as well as an exchange program to Canada for four months.
ACU has always had a good reputation for having small, intimate classes. This is something that most other big universities cannot offer. Also, the Strathfield campus is great as it is very welcoming and operates like a small community which is full of friendly students and staff.
Most classes I have taken have had relatively small numbers which has meant that lecturers and tutors can give more attention to each student. They are also open to and often insist on helping students not just in the classroom but also outside of their hours.
Say ‘yes’ to every opportunity you see advertised! Whether it be through email newsletters or advertisements around the university. There are countless opportunities to get involved in anything from sports teams to university events to opportunities abroad.
Yes, in my first semester at ACU I was studying to become a high school teacher so I participated in community engagement. I worked with children in an after-school program at Josephite Community Aid where myself and other volunteers tutored a disadvantaged class mostly consisting of children of refugees.
I have a couple of things I would like to do in my career. One of these being joining a startup team and being a part of building a successful business and brand from the ground up. As well as this, I’d love to be able to eventually get into international business where I would have the opportunity to work abroad which I have recently discovered is a tremendous opportunity.
