I enrolled at ACU in 2014, after pursuing a career as a chef in the hospitality industry. I completed my hospitality management study when I first arrived in Sydney in 2009, worked as a chef for four years, and decided that I needed to change my career path.
ACU provides all the necessary support to accommodate non-school leavers and most importantly, provides succinct help for adult students like myself.
My experience at university has been full of ups and down, which has shaped and grown my aptitude. I am astonished at how much I have grown while studying at university. After all, it’s not as bad and as scary, as I thought it would be. You don’t have to be an extreme academic nerd to be at university. All it takes is effort and the right attitude. The attitude that speaks of willingness and perseverance to keep rolling, despite the rejection. It had never crossed my mind that I would receive any kind of awards in university. (Milah was the recipient of the 2017 Executive Dean's Award). This has motivated me to do even better outside of university.
The university mission inspires me and as an international student, I would like to indulge myself in Australian values and multiculturalism. Additionally, I strongly feel a sense of belonging here, I did not feel left out because I am a foreigner, and all the support and feedback is provided and treated equally.
On top of that the academic modules teach you more than just the technical skills. It also teaches the ethicality and the soft skills associated with the subjects. Each of the subjects and the teaching incorporated the notion of the common good, which is one the university’s ethos, and was also one of the reasons I chose ACU.
Ask the right question and keep the right attitude. All of the academic staff and support staff are there to help you. Be nice and respectful to the librarians, they will help you a lot with your assignment research. Most of all, be open minded and start networking already! You will never know who you will meet and their future prospects.
ACU has helped me shape my mission to be more sustainable, there are a lot of aspects to consider and ACU has helped me define each of the aspects in a clearer approach. I believe my career path will take me far beyond my own expectations, providing something better for my community in the future.
I am an international student from Indonesia. I have many interests and aspirations, nonetheless if I am to narrow it down, I am interested in education and academic pursuit. I aspire to be an educator or a philanthropist in the education field one day, providing opportunity for those unable to access education in my country.
