'Virtual Classroom' Initiatives with US Universities
The Peter Faber Business School will be partnering with the Catholic University of America, and with the University of San Diego in several ‘Virtual Classroom’ initiatives in the next few months and into next year. A ‘Virtual Classroom’ is where teams of students at one university partner with teams of students at another university to work on a common assignment. It can also extend to the lecturers partnering through the sharing and delivery of materials to each university, via a range of technologies.
Such ‘Virtual Classrooms’ work best with undergraduate and postgraduate units which have an international or cross cultural focus, or where an assignment item can be internationalised. Think units like International Business, International Marketing and International Human Resources Management! They require quite a lot of setup time in establishing the relationship with the partner university, and its teaching staff, in designing the common assessment item, motivating students, and managing the project over the course of the semester, and ensuring that the credibility and integrity of the university reputation is enhanced.
The rationale for all this work centres on enhancing the graduate capacities of our students, building partnerships with other Catholic universities, building the case for international accreditations, contributing to our rise in international rankings, and last but not least – delivering on the mission of the university!
These US partnerships reflect the 'Virtual Classroom’ initiative established in late 2015 with Binus International University in Indonesia, which is ongoing (two undergraduate and one postgraduate Virtual Classroom Initiative have been run with Binus last year and this year)
The intention is that once the US initiatives are firmly established at the North Sydney campus, they will be run as well by interested teaching staff at the Melbourne and Brisbane campuses. Watch this space to see how the Catholic University of America and the University of San Diego ‘Virtual Classroom’ initiatives roll out over the next few months!
