This scholarship will financially assist Hayley in covering research costs and to produce a high-quality and original Honours thesis. Hayley is undertaking a Bachelor of Global Studies/Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree in conjunction with a Diploma of Languages in Italian.
Hayley’s thesis looks at why Australia needs particular defences in the criminal justice system in relation to the rule of Law and specifically addresses whether the family violence self-defence provision within Victoria adequately accommodates for battered women who kill in the context of family violence. She plans to use the funds from the scholarship to purchase various books, academic papers and related equipment used in conducting her research.
Hayley will also use the funds to help cover some of her travel costs to and from university, and to help cover her living expenses so that she can continue to volunteer at a law firm working with solicitors practising in family law and criminal law. This will allow Hayley to gain insights into the family violence self-defence provision and criminal law defences generally.
Hayley is looking forward to utilising the Capstone Editing resources upon the completion of her thesis. Hayley says, “This exceptional editing service will ensure that my thesis is scrupulously edited to ensure a high standard prior to submission. I am extremely thankful to the Capstone Editing team and my expert supervisor, Dr Brianna Chesser for supporting my research.”
