Postgraduate courses in Rehabilitation for health professionals

The Master of Rehabilitation suite of programs aims to provide evidence based advanced studies for registered Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists. These programs allow you to extend your knowledge and skills in the fields of aged and neurological rehabilitation; and position you as a leader in your discipline and field of practice.

This 120cp Master’s course is structured with a nested Graduate Certificate (40cp) and Graduate Diploma (80cp) for the disciplines of Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology. The Graduate Certificate (40cp) and Graduate Diploma (80cp) in Rehabilitation are also available for other health disciplines wishing to advance their knowledge and skills in aged and neurological rehabilitation.

The Master of Rehabilitation program is based on a set of multi-professional core units with discipline specific applications. Discipline specialisations are promoted in aged and neurological rehabilitation, through development of advanced skills; critical appraisal of strategies and interventions; as well as completion of advanced practice units and a clinical research project within the work setting.

Graduates from the Master’s program should be able to extend their clinical reasoning, decision making and scope of practice for optimal health care by:

  • Applying concepts knowledge and advanced skills;
  • Evaluating the issues and complex challenges faced by clinicians working in rehabilitation of older adults or those with neurological disorders;
  • Using clinical reasoning to develop optimal and progressive care plans as well as timely decisions to transition or discharge patients;
  • Aligning theory, practice and research through interpretation and application of evidence of practice;
  • Working as extended scope practitioners;
  • Planning and implementing research that leads to practice improvements and change; and
  • Developing team, inter-professional, supervisory and leadership skills from a discipline specific focus within a multi-disciplinary environment.

The Program is specifically designed for clinicians and includes a number of teaching modes that enable study while working:

  • Workshop intensives at the start of each semester
  • On-line learning activities across the semester
  • Practicums within the current work-setting
  • Research projects designed for workplace improvement.
