Grant is a senior lecturer with the School of Exercise Science at the Australian Catholic University. After receiving his undergraduate degree at the University of Ballarat, Grant undertook a professional honours program at the Queensland Academy of Sport working as a Strength and Conditioning Coach with the Australian Diving team for the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He undertook one of the initial Sports Based PhD programs developed between the Australian Institute of Sport Physiology Department, the University of Queensland, and the Australian Rugby Union.
Grant’s PhD thesis resulted in 8 peer reviewed Journal Publications investigating the Physiological and Game Requirements of Rugby Union. Dr Duthie has since held positions in Athletic Development roles with Super Rugby teams (ACT Brumbies, NSW Waratahs), Top 14 Rugby teams (Stade Francais), and NRL teams (South Sydney Rabbitohs, Newcastle Knights, Melbourne Storm). He currently consults to the English Rugby Union and holds adjunct positions with the University of Newcastle and Victoria University. His current research is investigating the peak intensities of competition to assist the implementation of tactical periodisation in team sports.
