Postgraduate Exercise Science Degrees

The Graduate Certificate in Performance Analysis and the Graduate Certificate in High Performance Sport Leadership which were launched in 2016 are open to domestic and international professionals currently working in high performance sport as well as Exercise and Sports Science graduates looking to develop a career in the industry. Both degrees are 0.5 years full-time or 1 year part-time and offer a pathway into the Master of High Performance Sport with credit.

Graduate Certificate in Performance Analysis

Performance Analysis is a rapidly growing area of specialisation in the high performance sport industry, both nationally and internationally. Knowledge and skills in performance analysis are becoming an expectation for sports science employment.

Research-led teaching will ensure graduates

Possess expert knowledge of:
  • the principles and theoretical foundations of performance analysis
  • appropriate use of technology to collect data
Understand:
  • theories and contemporary concepts relevant to practice in high performance sport
  • the need to acquire meaningful (i.e. strategically useful, valid, reliable and credible) performance data
Possess the skills needed to:
  • analyse and interpret meaningful high performance sport data in order to monitor and enhance performance
  • apply advanced information literacy to the processing and reporting of information and data that demonstrates understanding of the different levels of evidence

Campus location and study mode: Primarily online delivery, with a one-week intensive component to take place at the ACU Strathfield Campus in Sydney in February of each year. The intensive on-campus component is incorporated to provide students exposure to real industry problems, while providing the added opportunity to network directly with industry specialists and other students in the course.

Graduate Certificate in High Performance Sport Leadership

The high performance sport industry is increasingly focused on developing employees and athletes with strong leadership skills and training in ethics. Proposed regulatory changes within the industry may make these skills a necessity. The Graduate Certificate in High Performance Sport Leadership has been designed specifically to address these industry demands.

  • the high performance sport industry – specifically, the leadership and culture required in the high performance environment
  • the range of professions working in the high performance sport industry, and the contribution an interdisciplinary team brings to the performance of the athlete
Understand:
  • the relationship between the culture of the high performance sport industry and professional behaviour needed for success of the individual within the culture and success for  the organization
  • theories and contemporary concepts relevant to practice and research in high performance sport
Possess the skills needed to:
  • work in an ethical manner that promotes the dignity of the athlete, on a foundation of respect and honesty
  • communicate effectively within high performance sports settings that are multidisciplinary and collaborative
