International Nurses Day (IND) is celebrated around the world annually on May 12. It is a day to acknowledge and appreciate the contributions nurses make to our society. The day is celebrated on the birthday of Florence Nightingale, who is widely considered to be the founder of modern nursing. A special service is organised every year to commemorate the life of Florence Nightingale in Westminster Abbey.
To mark the occasion The School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedicine organised a Health Promotion day on campus. Celebrations were held on Friday 10 May with plenty of tea, coffee and delicious cake to go around. As part of the celebrations year 1 Bachelor of Nursing students performed a comprehensive health assessment including TPR, B/P and BMI on willing participants.
Those that joined in donated a gold coin to raise money for ‘Grandma Jenny’s” Training centre in Kenya. The initiative was put together by a year 3 ACU Bachelor of Nursing student.
