Set up Playgroups in Schools

Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary) students from ACU’s Ballarat campus are helping local schools to establish on-campus playgroups.

Under the guidance of a playgroup coordinator, the pre-service teachers help establish, develop, resource and implement these playgroups. This provides the students with valuable experience in the birth to early years setting, while challenging them to engage with the government's Early Years Framework.

My experience with this project further ignited my passion for early childhood education. I now have responsibility for setting up, recruiting and coordinating a playgroup at ACU’s Ballarat campus.

We run various sensory play activities using textures and crafts; we aim to run activities that can be easily replicated at home. It is also a great opportunity for the parents to come along and get involved and play with their children.

This program has been so successful that we now have families participating from outside ACU, due to powerful word of mouth. It is also a great way for ACU to be a part of the community.
