Welcome to Australian Catholic University's (ACU) Return to Teaching in Schools (RTTS) professional development program. Designed by ACU in conjunction with Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE), the course will help you maintain currency in the necessary skills, knowledge and practices for teaching in Queensland schools.

This program has been approved by the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) and meets the RTTS condition on your registration. Completion of the program will enable the Returning to Teaching condition on your full registration to be removed. Upon successful completion of the course you will receive an ACU Certificate of Completion to forward to the QCT to satisfy their requirements.

Course details

The Return to Teaching in Schools Program (RTTS) is for teachers from across all phases of learning (early childhood, secondary and primary) who:

  • have a Return to Teaching condition on their registration certificates and wish to continue or return to teach in a Queensland school
  • do not have recency of practice
  • may be returning to teaching after a significant break, or
  • teach only for low amounts each year, such as relief teachers.

The RTTS Program will enable you to update your pedagogical knowledge and become familiar with recent changes in policy and current education reforms, including the Australian Curriculum and NAPLAN testing. The course is offered fully online and provides complete flexibility for students. Extensive resources are made available online and include documents, video clips, vodcasts, online quizzes and guided reviews.

Course Costs: $800

Course Duration: Eight weeks (with a commitment of approximately 6 hours per week)

Course Dates:

Winter 2024 - Course will run between 4 July 2022 and 29 August 2024. Registration will open between 1 March and 31 May 2024.

Summer 2025 – Course will run between 1 December 2024 and 9 February 2025.
