Education and Arts
Individuals seeking permanent teaching roles within Australian schools are now required to have a four year teacher education qualification.
ACU offers a Bachelor of Education (Primary) Fourth Year Upgrade for teachers holding a two or three year qualification. This course allows individuals to upgrade an existing teaching qualification to meet minimum teacher accreditation standards.
Students with an existing three year qualification complete eight units of study, those with a two year qualification will need to complete 12 units. The majority of students complete the course in fully online mode studying:
- Creativity and Imagination in Education
- TESOL Techniques
- Cross Curriculum Uses of Children's Literature
- Linking Mathematics, Learning and Teaching 1
- Reflective Classroom Research
- The Learning Space
- Teaching with Information Technology
- Language and Literacy Education
The course also allows students to choose units outside the recommended program, including any 300 or 400 level Bachelor of Education (Primary) or units from the Graduate Certificate of Religious Education. Some of these units will be offered on campus for those students wishing to study in face-to-face mode.
