Primary and secondary teachers who want to enhance their teaching career can now complete a postgraduate specialisation in Middle School Mathematics.
ACU's Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (Middle School Mathematics) gives teachers a broad overview of teaching and learning in this area. It helps them develop key elements of mathematical thinking including conjecturing, specialising, generalising, justifying, proving, argumentation, problem solving and posing, investigation and mathematical modelling.
Our Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Middle School Mathematics) aims to produce graduates who are able to use inquiry-based teaching approaches in their classrooms in the key areas of Number, Geometry & Measurement, Statistics & Probability and Algebra & Function. The course meets 50% of the requirements for the Master of Education.
The specialisations caters to the increasing demand in Victoria and Queensland for teachers who have background knowledge and skills in curriculum development for teaching mathematics in years 5-9.
The course provides a broad overview of the teaching and learning of middle school mathematics, including development of mathematical content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge.
The course is offered at ACU's Melbourne and Brisbane campuses.*
