Shurlee Swain: Celebrating a Career of Engagement and Achievement
17th Feb 2017
After a long and distinguished career, Professor Shurlee Swain is retiring from her role as Professor of Humanities.
Shurlee has worked at Deakin University, the University of Melbourne and Australian Catholic University, and in each of those positions she has played a vital role as a researcher, teacher, mentor and colleague. She has been an active gender and social welfare historian, and importantly has always sought to tie academic research to the public sphere. She has been a trailblazer at working with people whose experiences are the subject of social welfare historians’ research - treating them as active participants and empowered agents to benefit from the research process.
To honour Shurlee Swain’s career, Australian Catholic University is hosting a symposium and celebration. This symposium is bringing together people from across Shurlee’s career, including university colleagues, early career researchers, public stakeholders and former higher degree research students. We invite you to attend what is promising to be a stimulating day of discussion to honour the excellent work of Professor Shurlee Swain. The symposium will be followed by a reception in Shurlee’s honour.
