Research in women’s, history, theology and spirituality is fundamental to the welfare of society in general and the Church in particular. Rosemary Goldie was aware of this. It was recently reported (14/2/2018) that:

The Australian Embassy to the Holy See held a commemoration on February 13 for Rosemary Goldie, the late Australian who was the first woman to hold a leadership post in the Vatican. Australian Defence Minister Marise Payne opened a new conference room at the embassy named for Goldie, who served as undersecretary for the Pontifical Council for the Laity from 1967-76. Before serving on the laity council, Goldie was one of the first women appointed to attend the Second Vatican Council as an auditor and was an official observer at the last two sessions in 1964 and 1965.

During her retirement in Australia Rosemary became aware of the Golding Centre and, on her death in 2010, Dr Sophie McGrath rsm was informed of the following clause in her will:

I give all my books and academic papers and Vatican documents to Dr Sophie McGrath to be distributed by her at her discretion to the Australian Catholic University.

We are still waiting for the appropriate person to emerge in ACU or beyond who has the ability and interest to research and write the history of this exceptional woman.

Anyone interested in discussing prospective research in the fields of women’s history, theology and spirituality please contact Dr Sophie McGrath rsm.
