The Wisdom Lab is a Premium 5.5 day Intensive Residential Executive Development program. It is termed Premium because it provides the equivalent of 4 full-time Instructors to deepen the learning.
It is an "Open Enrolment" program but by invitation only. Participants are individually profiled thus ensuring they are all graduate EMBA or MBA senior leaders. Such a cohort allows the program to be customised for those having an MBA and senior business experience as a given so that advanced attention
can be paid to the systemic complexity at the top of organisations.
The innovation therefore offers cohort diversity not possible in "Custom/In-house" programs and levels of customisation not possible in "Open Enrolment" programs. Consider how LinkedIn has totally transformed the Recruitment Industry and likewise how LinkedIn makes this invitation approach possible.
The Wisdom Lab is a paradigm changing program to the person inside the role they hold. In a traditional approach the person is seen in their role and this becomes the means to the end - organisational outcomes. They are shown or coerced if necessary into how to deliver the outcomes.
The Wisdom Lab challenges the person to choose holistic authentic changes that they can sustain themselves and deliver sustainable outcomes. The Laboratory metaphor highlights that only an experimental approach can 'teach wisdom'.
"An Econ; defined as a fictional human species that behaves exactly as Economists would like ordinary humans to behave."
Daniel Kahneman is the famous psychologist who in 2002 was awarded a Nobel Prize in Economics. Famous also for work on unconscious biases he firmly says people are neither rational nor irrational. His says they use their human capacity to reason. People may reason well or poorly, but whatever
makes sense becomes TRUE. This is neither rational nor irrational.
2. Changing Minds, your own and others
"Faced with the choice between changing one's mind and proving that there is no need to do so, almost everyone gets busy on the proof."
John Kenneth Galbraith
Social psychology shows convincingly why and how Galbraith's wisdom is true and it provides tools to make changing your own mind and others' much easier. Social psychology proves power and coercion only changes behaviour. For a physical worker, this was enough. It only stresses a knowledge worker.
3. Complexity and Ambiguity
"When faced with complexity and ambiguity the real project is to cope with and manage the anxiety and fear that wells up in us."
If leaders are not sure they will like the answer they will avoid this question. "What is really going on here"? Leaders must manage their anxiety so they can take a much closer look at the answer. This anxiety is a little like business risk and has the same advice. We cannot get rid of risk, it must
