Student accommodation in Melbourne

There are several student apartment complexes in the city centre and close to campus. These apartment facilities are operated by private businesses. Student apartments have their own bathroom and kitchen. They are generally furnished with bed, heater, desk and chair, dining table and chairs, sofa, refrigerator, cook-top and oven or microwave.

Unlike residential colleges and hostels, students are self-sufficient in these apartments. In many situations, students are responsible for the connection and ongoing payments for water, telephone, electricity and gas.

There is a range of apartment styles you can lease:

  • Studio - the bed is situated in the living room of the apartment
  • One bedroom - the apartment has a living room and a separate bedroom
  • Twin-share - apartment with two single beds in the one bedroom
  • Two and three bedroom - separate living room and bedrooms.

Student residences are furnished rooms in shared or self-contained apartments in residential buildings. These residences are privately owned and run independently from the University.

In most cases you can rent a single bedroom and share the lounge room, kitchen and laundry facilities with other students. Some complexes offer en suite rooms and others have shared bathrooms. This accommodation is self-catering. Contact the property managers if you have any questions. Most properties will only accommodate students. Some also offer meal plans and social activities.
