North Sydney is a suburb and commercial district on the Lower North Shore of Sydney, three kilometres north of the Sydney Central Business District (CBD).
Sydney is the state capital of New South Wales, and is the site of the first European colony in Australia, established in 1788 at Sydney Cove by Arthur Phillip, leader of the First Fleet from Britain. A resident of the city is referred to as a Sydneysider.
Sydney is located on Australia's south-east coast. The city is built around Port Jackson, which includes Sydney Harbour, leading to the city's nickname, "the Harbour City".
Sydney now has a population of over four million people and is the largest and oldest city in Australia. It is one of the most multicultural cities in the world.
Sydney's climate is mainly dry and mild with fine hot summers and cool sunny winters encouraging an outdoor lifestyle. Summer temperatures average 28ºC and can reach over 40ºC in Sydney's western region. The weather during winter is usually a mild 18ºC.
Sydney is notable for its spectacular harbour and famous ocean beaches at Bondi and Manly. The metropolitan area is also surrounded on three sides by national parks including the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains National Park.

- Luna Park – an amusement park on the harbour’s edge. The huge grinning face over the entrance is a Sydney icon
- Taronga Zoo – Sydney’s major zoo houses both Australian and exotic animals.
- Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace – watch mainstream and arthouse films in this beautiful refurbished theatre
- walk around the foreshore from Kirribilli to Lavender Bay along the Luna Park promenade
- walk on beautiful shorefront trails through trees and bushland in Mosman.
There are numerous restaurants with a variety of cuisines in Crows Nest near the junction of Pacific Highway, Falcon Street and Willoughby Road and in McMahons Point, along Blues Point Road.
There are a number of nightclubs and pubs located within walking distance of North Sydney Station, including the Commodore Hotel (206 Blues Point Road, McMahons Point) and the Greenwood Hotel (36 Blue Street, North Sydney).
There are a number of shopping centres in the area, including Greenwood Plaza above North Sydney train station.
There are a number of gyms in the local area including Fitness First in Elizabeth Plaza, across from Greenwood Plaza.
North Sydney Medical Practice provides bulk billing services for Australian residents. The nearest hospital with full emergency room services is the Royal North Shore Hospital in St Leonards.
