Notices and Fines

Notices

Reminder notices are sent 3 days before items are due for return. Fine Notices are sent when fines total $10.00 or more. Overdue Notices are sent:

  • when items become overdue
  • after 14 days overdue
  • at 42 days overdue, in the form of a Bill for Replacement.

A Bill for Replacement includes a $20.00 processing fee, plus either the cost of the item as listed on the catalogue or an average replacement charge of $60.00. Notices will be sent to your ACU email address. It is your responsibility to check your email. Reminder notices are sent as a courtesy and as such you can not dispute a penalty because you have not received a notice. Notices for Bill for Replacement and fines of $45.00 or greater are posted.

Suspension

Borrowing privileges will be suspended if you have an overdue item of any kind, including Intercampus and Interlibrary loans, or have an outstanding fine of $10.00 or more. If you are suspended you cannot:
  • Borrow, including Intercampus and Interlibrary loans
  • Place a hold
  • Renew a loan

Fines and Sanctions

Students with overdue items will be suspended from borrowing and incur fines at the following rates:

Item Type Rate of fine Maximum Charge per item
Standard Items (Main Collection) 50 cents per item per day $50.00 maximum per item
2 Hour Loans $1.00 per hour (of part thereof) $50.00 maximum per item
Restricted Loans (1 day, 3 day, 7 day) $2.00 per item per day $50.00 maximum per item

Sanctions that the university may apply to the non payment of debts are outlined in ACU Academic Regulations.
